Description

An introduction to interfacing a variety of imaging, audio, and communication applications with physical space and integrating them into projects where stories, images, time management, and time-based actions are explored. This course prepares students in advanced image creation for all ARTS curricula. (F, Sp)

Prerequisite:  Minimum 2.5 in ARTS 102 and (minimum 2.5 in  ARTS 103 or concurrently) and Reading Level 5 and Writing Level 6

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify and employ the elements and principles of design in the creation or discussion of four-dimensional artwork.
  2. Demonstrate creative thinking, perception, and problem solving through the creation of four-dimensional  artwork.
  3. Discuss four-dimensional approaches to historical and contemporary art and design work.
  4. Demonstrate conceptual and technical proficiency using a range of four- dimensional strategies and media in creating artwork.
  5. Employ the principles of color theory and application to four-dimensional artwork.
  6. Produce time-based media and online interactive projects.
  7. Develop digital production skills.
  8. Use multiple presentation strategies to display artwork.
  9. Utilize professional file management strategies.
  10. Manipulate attributes of space and time in four-dimensional artwork.
  11. Communicate ideas visually through preliminary sketches and/or maquettes.

The MACRAO Transfer Agreement simplifies the transfer of students from one Michigan institution to another. The most current MACRAO Transfer Agreement information can be found at http://www.lcc.edu/transfer/macrao_agreement.aspx.

The MACRAO Transfer Agreement will be replaced by the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) which will take effect for students entering Fall 2014 or later.  Students who started prior to Fall 2014 will be able to complete the MACRAO Transfer Agreement through Summer 2019, or they may complete the MTA requirements.

Enrollment Verification

Class attendance and participation are essential to student success. Class rosters will be updated by the end of the second week of the semester (50% refund period) to accurately reflect student enrollment in this course. Students who have not attended by the end of week two will be administratively dropped and responsible for any required tuition and fee charges. This policy only applies to 16-week (full semester), first 12-week, and first 8-week sections.

Course Related Information

Through the use of traditional and time---based media, students are introduced to basic concepts of art and design in space and time. Assignments  direct students in creating works  that utilize attributes of time and movement, elements  of moving image, serial, sequential,  and narrative ordering,  still and moving image editing,  sound and image relations, and objective analysis. In focusing on the relations between students' spacing and timing skills, this course extends and supplements  the other  Foundation courses, and prepares students for further work with computers, video, photo, sound and animation.
