Description
The student will learn the advanced CNC programming functions of the MasterCAM software. The successful student will be able to design, program, and run 3-dimensional CNC programs and check the toolpath using the MasterCAM verify toolpath function. (Sp)
Prerequisite: Minimum 2.0 in METM 220 and Reading Level 3 and Writing Level 4 and Math Level 4

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Practice safety and maintenance.
- Perform housekeeping, and practice maintenance and safety procedures, in all LCC laboratories and with all LCC equipment, according to published LCC Manufacturing Engineering Technology Department standards and according to equipment manufacturer's specifications.
- Explain lockout/tagout procedures.
- Create surface models using revolved, pocket, and parallel toolpath.
- Create ruled and flat boundary surfaces.
- Use radial and scallop toolpaths.
- Construct surface and pocket and flowline toolpaths.
- Construct swept surfaces for radial and flowline toolpaths.
- Draft and fillet surfaces for rough and finish contour toolpaths.
- Raise letters on a surface.
- Draft, sweep, revolve and fillet surfaces and pocket and contour using the shallow option.
- Mill rib profiles.
- Create machining documentation.
- Use automated drill software to plate machine holes, counterbores and slots.
- Perform CAM toolpath operations.
- Perform high precision machining.
- Setup a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Mill.
- Make part modifications on a CNC Mill.
- Perform CNC Mill operations.
- Program a CNC Mill.
- Program CAM software.
- Plan high speed work.
- Turn off parts (programmed).

Course Practices
SAFETY RULES (see complete Safety Rules posted in lab):
- Leather type shoes are required to protect students (no canvas type or open type shoes will be accepted).
- Safety glasses are to be worn at all times. No Exceptions!!
- No student is to operate equipment without first checking with the instructor.
- Students must sweep and clean their work areas before leaving.
Any student not adhering to the safety rules will not be allowed to participate.
